MCG Initiatives and Partnerships

The Morrowtown Community Group has organized Community Clean-up Days, voter registration and other community events, distributed care packages of food, toiletries, cleaning products, masks, etc., developed an afternoon enrichment program for youth in the area, Mondays at Morrowtown, and conducted a Community Assessment (in 2021) to get a sense of needs. In response to this feedback, particularly concerns about food security and desires for a safe space to have family events, MCG decided to build a garden. Over the course of 2021-22, the group purchased land and built Morrowtown Community Garden, which now includes a shed, ten raised beds, seven rows of crops, and play space with tire swings. From the harvests of our garden this summer 2022, we have handed out over ninety “meal bags” of veggies to neighbors, with recipes to use the ingredients. Neighbors are also welcomed to pick from the garden as needed. In late August, we handed out over one hundred backpacks filled with school supplies as part of our MCG Back-To-School Event, along with games, face-painting, and a friendly visit from the Burlington Fire Department.
