Two homicides remain unsolved in the Morrowtown community. In 2012 and 2017, a son and grandson, were lost to gun violence. In 2017 the mother, Lydia Jones and grandmother, Joyce Moore of those men, came together with a mission of improving their neighborhood so that no one else would have to experience the loss they did. What started as Joyce and Lydia walking and praying with community members has now turned into an organized group of concerned residents. "One person can’t change the world, but a few can change a community."

MCG was formed to inspire positive social and environmental change for a now diverse community that deserves to thrive. One person can’t change the world but a few can change a community. Many residents and community partners have joined their dream to form the Morrowtown Community Development Group Inc., better known as The Morrowtown Community Group (MCG).
Morrowtown or "Mar'town" as it is often called by residents is a historically Black community near downtown Burlington, NC. While many residents have stayed put Morrowtown is much more diverse today.
